There are many known elements which influenced Mark Twain’s writings. In his works he shows his influence from his upbringing and the times and events of which he lived in. He also showed in his works his connection to the Mississippi river, his career as a riverboat pilot, and his time spent on the river. According to Twain himself the time he spent on the river was the most gratifying moments of his life, and the time he spent on the river furnished his creations and imagination.
